What elements of the Peterborough and Trent Hills Municipal Cultural Plans do you feel are most appropriate for the City of Kawartha Lakes?
Any specifics that are easily transferable, but no other community blueprint should be our community blueprint. It's not good enough to simply mirror what other communities are doing. It's more valuable to look outside our geographic neighbours for successful approaches and to stimulate an approach that is uniquely ours in our geographic region.

What criteria do you feel organizations should have to meet in order to qualify for operational funding? Cultural institutions must be appropriate to the area, inform, and employ locally. Artisans should be that and not just re-sellers / assemblers.

What suggestions do you have to provide training to staff, Board members and other volunteers in running successful cultural organizations? Learn from examples that are working - even if that example isn't in our area. Teach them every organization is not the same, and as such to keep at an arm's length, realizing that the organizations need to have the final say. Teach them the need for true holistic grass roots growth and organization joint ventures.

What are your top 2 or 3 reasons you feel arts, cultural and heritage are vital to our community? It gives opportunities for peoples of all economic situations a chance to be self supporting to some degree. Cultural; and heritage organizations help to educate people and foster a greater sense of community involvement and identity.
Its proven that these areas improve the vitality of the community.

What criteria do you feel organizations should have to meet in order to qualify for operational funding?: organizations should be looking toward offering supportive information to local artists and also some skill enhancing workshops as needed

What suggestions do you have to provide training to staff, Board members and other volunteers in running successful cultural organizations?: workshops are a great way to enhance people's skills as they can exchange ideas with professionals.
There is board member training available for volunteers and, people should be encouraged to participate in these trainings.

What are your top 2 or 3 reasons you feel arts, cultural and heritage are vital to our community?: The ARTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE are very important sectors and businesses as they encourage tourism which brings money into the local area businesses. These interesting places offer great interactive experiences for visitors, children and tourists to have a wonderful time in the local area. And HERITAGE is very important as we all need to appreciate our own background and where we came from in order to really enjoy fully our own lives.

What elements of the Peterborough and Trent Hills Municipal Cultural Plans do you feel are most appropriate for the City of Kawartha Lakes?: It is gratifying to see that city council is appreciating that these sectors are a vital part of our towns and that there are many small businesses that are providing very interesting experiences and they should be valued and supported publicly with grants and other opportunities to really survive.
