James Lukow is a renowned local fine craftsman who truly respects his chosen material, natural wood. And he thoroughly enjoys working closely with each individual client when creating that special 'dream' piece for each appreciative customer.
Having learned from his father who was an honest skilled cabinetmaker /furniture refinisher, James developed a deep appreciation of the natural beauty of the various woods in their unpainted state. The richness of the colour, the fine grain and patterning of each different wood-inspired his love for this useful and beautiful material.
James' father also taught him how to use each special tool properly to create the best quality hand construction that was evident in the many vintage and antique furniture pieces his father lovingly refinished for each customer.
James is very proud of each piece that he designs and builds for his clients as these finely crafted items will become valued heirlooms for each family in the future. He hopes that his work counters today's throw away attitude and the lost appreciation for quality craftsmanship.
In the tradition of the early fine artisans, James works lovingly to bring his clients 'dreams' into reality for them. Open year-round by appointment or by chance. May to October, open the third Saturday of each month 9-5 pm on the Arts and Heritage Trail.
