Sheri Brenneman

Sheri hails from New Hamburg, a quiet little town of about 8000 in south-western Ontario.  Throughout high school she developed a love of both music and visual art that has shaped her life ever since.  She attended the University of Western Ontario where she received her Honours Bachelor of Music majoring on the tuba and minoring in vocal music and visual arts, and a Bachelor of Education with distinction specializing in both vocal and instrumental music.

Sheri moved to Lindsay in 1999 to teach music at LCVI and has since  become a pillar of the Arts community in the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Read on and you will not only discover that she has been greatly recognized for her musical achievements but has now also used her love of travel to 'journey' into the world of nature photography and under the name Novus Studios has amassed quite a catalogue of incredible images and photo books.. Feel free to click on the images found here to see them in their full beauty.

Although Sheri began her teaching career at Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute she has also taught at Fenelon Falls S. S. and I.E. Weldon S. S. which she now calls her "home away from home".  At each school, Sheri has taught both instrumental and vocal music – re-establishing the vocal program at two of these three schools.  Sheri provided her students with a huge variety of quality curricular and extra-curricular experiences directing Concert Bands, Choirs, Triple Trios, Brass Ensembles, Jazz Bands, and Rock Ensembles.  She has traveled extensively with her student groups performing  in Washington D.C., Cleveland, Halifax, New York, Boston and Chicago. She was a part of the TLDSB recording of We Are The 21st Century, and the LCVI recording of Focus.  Sheri is also a long-term member of the staff at the Trillium Lakelands Arts Camp (TLAC) serving as it's program Director for seven of her eleven years there.

Sheri has also been very active in her community.  She has served as a member of the board of directors of the Lindsay Concert Foundation and the Academy Theatre Foundation.  Sheri was a music instructor with the Lindsay Kinsmen Band from 2000-2003 and was involved with Splendor of the Seasons for 5 years helping raise money for the Academy Theatre.  She has been the music director for numerous productions at the Academy Theatre including The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, Seussical, the Wizard of Oz and the very successful 2009 production of High School Musical,

When not directing the orchestra Sheri can often be found on stage (like in Beauty and the Beast where she played the Wardrobe  'Madame de la Grande Bouche') or in the pit (like she did in the Triple Threat Theatre's production of A Chorus Line in 2006).  Other contributions to the greater musical community have included her time as a member of the Kawartha Lakes Singers, as a member of the Peterborough Concert Band, and as an associate member of the Peterborough Symphony.

In 2004 Sheri received the Dennis Sweeting 'Lindsay Arts Person of the Year' award for her ongoing contribution to our local Arts community and in 2010 she was presented with Trillium Lakelands District School Board's Impact Award for outstanding contributions in co-curricular activities.

For eight years, from 2007-2015, Sheri was a key staff member of the very popular and successful Odyssey Project.  Sheri was not only the vocal coach for the group but also the resident photographer taking thousands of images that appeared on the Odyssey Project website and in a hard-cover photobook chronicling the history of the ensemble.  She very much enjoyed her time with the group, and was sad to see the end of this ensemble.

However... she is very excited about the PHOENIX Music Ensemble - a similar group that Sheri launched in November 2015.

Sheri's love of travelling has taken her from one end of this country to the other and down to the southern United States. On these trips she has taken some incredible photographs (a few of which are shared on this page). This 'hobby' has developed into a very active sideline for Sheri with her Novus Studios is getting a well-deserved reputation for the quality of its images.

Sheri Brenneman.s love of all things creative is infectious.  Over the years she has been involved in countless new initiatives and projects that further the Arts in our community.  Her musical work has brought smiles to the faces of thousands of people (children and adults alike) in classrooms and concert stages around the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Today she continues to share her gift of music as a teacher at I.E. Weldon Secondary School where she directs the IEW Concert Band, Sonic Edge Contemporary Music Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Choir  and as the director of the new and exciting Phoenix Music Ensemble.   In her “spare time", she continues to travel and enjoys nature photography and spending time with family and friends.
