I am a clothing designer, natural dyer, and experienced sewist. With a Fibre Arts Certificate and over 50 years’ of experience in dressmaking, I began developing a completely natural clothing line for women. I hope to honour plants and encourage people to commune with them as part of their daily intentional living. I am committed to demonstrating that clothing can be made sustainably, even positively impacting people and the planet, and can then be good for the soul. My community, online and on earth, consists of all makers using gifts of nature with respect and gratitude.
Sanctuary Innerwear is a line of handmade botanical garments designed and made by me as ritual self-care. The corselet & shortlet, bodice & brief, cami & demi-brief, chemise & short, and nightie & pantie sets come in an array of nature’s colours and are luxurious in softness, line, and flow. Clean living and wellness-inspired clientele find body- and mind-rejuvenating plant potential in the natural spray infusion and laundering soap. This unique lingerie is meant to be worn next to the skin to facilitate the action of osmosis and aromatherapy in a plant-based healthy lifestyle.
I design and make Sanctuary Innerwear, the herbal infusion, and the laundering soap. I use regenerative and chemical-free gardening practices, traditional plant dyeing methods (only alum is used as a mordant), low-tech distillation practices, and natural ingredients in all processes. I sew all garments from start to finish at my home using a domestic sewing machine. I recycle scraps to make bath loofahs am working on recycling fibers to create hats, provide threads for nests, and compost the remainder.
